There’s nothing better than a quick tropical getaway in the middle of winter. Even living in South Florida where the sunshine is plentiful, I still treasure the mental and physical escape of a resort vacation in the dead of winter. Finding outfit inspiration in the middle of January for a location you likely have never visited before can be daunting, I get it. Before you begin packing, research the location and culture to get a sense of what activities and climate you might encounter while there. To help with your packing checklist, we’ve pulled together our favorite outfit essentials that are carry-on friendly (my favorite bag here!) and will ensure you look the part at this winter’s hottest vacation destinations. Bon voyage!
Comfort is key when deciding what to pack for Hawaii. Between Hawaii’s hiking trails, plantations and beaches, you’ll have no shortage of activities planned. Be prepared for whatever the islands throw at you by wearing a cute patterned bikini underneath shorts and a cute top to go from mountain hike to waterfall swim in no time! At night, look the part of a Hawaiian at the local watering hole by wearing a printed dress with cut-outs.
Whether you’re headed to Tulum, Cancun or the Yucatan, nothing says Mexico chic quite like bold color and a boho vibe. Depending on where you’re staying, Mexico is often a place to see and be seen. Be sure to pack a glam bikini set that easily transitions from pool chair to poolside party. With Mexico’s warmer temperatures, a lightweight printed sundress is a must. The best part? Sandy flip-flops are always encouraged!
Deciding what to pack for a cruise can be tricky; cruise itineraries involve various excursions, not to mention the ships' formal dining nights. During the day, athleisure, shorts and layers will be your go-to. At night, dress up a two-piece printed top and maxi skirt with heels and bold jewelry. Later in your vacation, re-wear each piece as separates to create multiple outfits from one!
Everyone's on island time in the Bahamas, and it's never too early for a piña colada! White jeans are a vacation must-have as they can be paired with anything and are perfect for a low-key beach dinner. Pair yours with bold leopard print sandals and a white top for the quintessential island look with a pop of print. At night, opt for a flirty printed wrap skirt or crop top to show-off your sun-kissed skin after a full day on the beach.
Hot tip: Your skirt can also double as a beach cover-up to save room in your carry-on!
