CFKF “Shooting for the Stars” was a success…

Cameras For Kids Foundation is a nonprofit organization that began in South Florida in 2009 by Fine Art Photographer Betsey Chesler and has since established its program in Atlanta, New York,  Los Angeles, and Chicago with plans to reach underprivileged children worldwide.

Cameras For Kids Foundation uses photography to capture kids imaginations, to empower them, build confidence, self-esteem and open a whole new world for them to visualize and create art.

The Cameras for Kids Foundation hosted its third annual fundraiser ” Shooting for the Stars ” on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012 at Jet Runway Cafe at the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport from 7-11 pm.  All proceeds benefited the Cameras for Kids Foundation.

Lilac And Lilies Boutique also hit the runway that evening to present a Fashion Show showcasing the newest looks for fall and holiday.

Fall Accessories Report

Leaves changing, a cool crisp to the air, the smell of rain coats the city…Okay, well I realize Fall isn’t upon us just yet, but the heat and humidity never seems to dissipate and I simply can’t help but imagine slipping into bulky sweaters with my jeggings and boots. Until this magnificent season comes to Florida and the rest of the states, I’ve been researching the latest accessory trends and compiled them into the official LilacAndLilies Fall Accessories Report!

When I think of Fall I think of a more refined, chic prep look to easily erase the recent memory of excessive skin from the never-ending summer months. Therefore, I’m really digging exotic snake prints (faux of course), gemstones, and delicately simple and shiny pieces to accompany the Fall clothing trends. Think conservative glamour – silk button ups, camel-colored everything, and a resurgence of the classic 50s and 60s look, just to name a few.

Fall Buying at LA Market

Michelle Headshot

Buying in LA is much different than anywhere else. Overall, LA has a laid back hip vibe that I find very appealing. I have bought in NYC and Vegas, but LA has truly captured my heart. I sought out the California Market Center, The New Mart and The Copper Building to find hidden treasures.

On the first day, I decided to go to the California Market Center. Before I head to a building, I plan out a list of designers to visit. The collections to visit on my list were NONE which I actually saw. Have no fear, I bought some amazing stuff for the store…lots of accessories. At one showroom I met the owner/designer of Black. He has been in the industry for 30 plus years and we got to talking. We hit it off and he invited me to a fashion show for later that day! I would NEVER say no to a fashion show!!!!Directives west produced the show featuring the fall collections.  They did an Amazing job. The music, models and fall fashion were all beautiful! Some of the fall trends that I saw were, luxe military, think all olive and navy, structured jackets over chiffon blouses and paired with skinny pants, Boudoir treasures was another that I just loved.  Lace, ruffles and softened décor add a touch of Hollywood glam to everyday life.

The time change finally caught up to me on the morning of day 2, (or maybe it was from the pre-party at the fashion show last night!). After vast amounts of coffee I headed to The New Mart. It was here that I bought collections by BB Dakota, MM Couture, Line and Dot, Level 99, Elise M., Mink Pink and none other than Isabella Fiore. I loved all the lines but was really impressed with MM Couture and Isabella Fiore. I had heard of Isabella Fiore many times before, but it was here that I actually got to see hands on, the quality of her work.  I just had to order some for the store!

By day 3 I was done! Task completed. I reserved the last day for The Cooper Building. What did I find…well, I discovered an AMAZING accessory designer. The line is called Alkemine. I asked Dara, the owner/designer about the collection and he told me that all his designs are handmade using 100% reclaimed metals. I fell in love with the snake pieces. I also placed orders for Patterson J. Kincaid, Division E and many others, after all I can’t give away all of my surprises!

LA market is a truly unique experience. I loved doing business here but there is nothing like home sweet home. It is here in LA where the trends start and I can’t wait to bring them back to you! As always please leave your feedback, I love to read what you have to say!

Until next time,
