I have a love for vintage fashion. A professor from FIT once told me, “Fashion is not revolutionary, it’s evolutionary.” I even took a course called Vintage Shopping. Can you believe that? You receive credit for shopping with your class and professor! That’s when I knew I found my calling.
So, I recently opened a book that I have not looked at in a long time entitled Vintage Fashion by Emma Baxter-Wright. It highlights the most important designers and signature looks from 1900-1990. The photography is also amazing.

I saw influences dating from 1924 with a look created by Callot Soeurs. Actress Marion Morehouse is seen wearing a one-shoulder bias-cut gown. OK, let’s skip the bottom and focus on the top. So many current designers are still doing this. Black Halo does this in every collection and most recently Geren Ford had a one shoulder ruffle top in the collection. This top was one of my favs!

Another favorite item to wear is a jacket, fitted or boyfriend, with jeans. I one day would love to buy a tweed Chanel jacket to add to my collection though Rebecca Taylor and and Elizabeth and James make fantastic pieces as well. This jacket is by French designer Maria-Louise Bruyere and dates to the 40’s. I just love the buttons on it.

Maybe Studio 54 was the birth place of the disco era. They seemed so glamorous wearing deep V-necked, backless, almost Grecian-style silk jersey dresses. Jumpsuits, a la Charlie’s Angels are still worn by fashionistas today.
Here you have it, my top pics from Vintage Fashion. PS- I highly recommend it!!!
