Hi! My name is Amanda Di Leo, I am a homeschooled Fort Lauderdale based fashionista and teen blogger of Get On My Chic.

What inspired you to start your blog? How long have you been blogging?
I recently started my blog because I love anything and everything associated with fashion. Whether it’s wardrobe styling, personal shopping, or clothing design, I have a desire to be involved, as I want to do something useful in the fashion world. Get On My Chic allows me to express myself through fashion and provide style artistry and advice for fashionistas of almost any age. I want to help others discover their distinct style that truly reveals their personality. I started my blog in the summer of 2015.

Describe your style? Where do you find your style inspiration?
My style can be described as effortless but chic with a touch of trendiness. My style icons Olivia Palermo, Brooke Hil, and of course Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are normally where I find my style inspiration but I also think Tumblr is a great place to find lots of style inspiration.

What is a timeless fashion piece you can’t live without?
A pair of black pumps is without a doubt a timeless fashion piece I couldn’t live without. And of course a leather jacket!

What are some of your favorite Fall 2016 Trends?
All year I can’t wait for Fall to wear the cutest burgundy sweaters and over the knee suede boots. I am currently obsessing over off the shoulder sweaters, chokers, and leather skirts!

One piece of advice you would give to any start up bloggers?
Be consistent and be yourself!

Company: Fox Sports HEAT Reporter – misMEDIA –
Age: the big 4-0
Instagram: @kristenhewitttv

How did you get to where you are today?
I have worked in sports broadcasting for 19 years, working for the HEAT is a dream come true, but took HARD work and perseverance to be on-air in this South Florida market. I knew when I was 13 I’d work in the media – and now I love that I can do it part-time, and build my online digital presence at the same time!

What is your elevator pitch on what you do?
I am a 2-time Emmy award winning TV reporter, owner of misMEDIA, and founder of mommy in SPORTS. I am a natural born storyteller, and love to help clients share their story with the world.

How do you define success? Do you consider yourself “successful”?
I believe success is defined individually. Recently a friend said to me, “I think in a year you’ll be REALLY successful, when you focus on your business.” I replied, “I’m already successful, I’m a mom, who gets to work outside the home during NBA season, and spend the rest of the time raising my girls.”

What have been some of the most rewarding things in your career thus far?
Well, winning Emmy’s is rewarding, as is being able to interview and share stories of athletes off the court. I love meeting their wives, kids, parents – really learning who they are and what helped propel them into their extraordinary sports careers. Also, my blog is really my baby. I didn’t know what a blog was three years ago, to be named BEST BLOG MIAMI this year was a huge honor. I love writing, and knowing that people enjoy reading it means the world to me.

What have been some of your mistakes? What have you learned from them?
Mistakes, I have made many of them. But I don’t think we can succeed until we’ve failed. I’ve had many missteps, taken the wrong job in the wrong sport, or mispronounced a name on the air, but they just taught me to always be smarter. Always be over prepared. And always be authentic.

What do you still want to achieve personally and/or professionally?
I haven’t even scratched the surface with what I want to do yet! I want to publish my kids book I’ve written, finally launch my podcast, do more web videos, and write a book. Then move to the mountains, ski every day, and retire and open a bakery!

Who has been your greatest inspiration?
My greatest inspiration is my kids. They teach me SO much about life every day, and make me strive to be the best version of myself. And I wouldn’t have had to freedom to try writing if it wasn’t for my supportive husband, he’s a saint. I’m very lucky.

When was the last time you were overwhelmed and cried from something provoked by work?
Working on live TV can be overwhelming, but I don’t think I’ve ever cried. I get overwhelmed more by my “day” job, the freelance writing assignments and blog work. I have problems with time management and sometimes take too much on. The good thing is- I’ve learned to say no. There’s so much power inside that little word!

How has your career affected your personal life/relationships?
My career is a little nutty, so all of my free time goes to my family. I really have to schedule in time for my friends. I literally set a reminder in my phone to call a different friend three times a week to maintain contact.

Have you ever thought about giving up? What provokes those thoughts?
I want to give up about every six month when burn out sets in. Then usually a 2 week-break from social media usually recharges me!

What causes you anxiety/sleepless nights?
Well babies keep me up at night, and anxiety when they’re sick. But I’m usually only anxious when I travel and have a big shoot for a brand. I prefer to work at home, which is why after kids I never pursued full-time sideline reporting jobs. I miss my kids too much!

What makes you happy?
Long hot baths, a Sprinkles cupcake, swimming with my family, hot yoga, Friday night movie nights, the Rocky Mountains and lots of snow, and TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress. I want to renew my wedding vows just so I can go to Kleinfelds!

What advice would you tell your 21 year old self?
Don’t worry about what anyone else thinks about you, LOVE YOURSELF.

What is the biggest misconception about what you do?
People think I’m Ticketmaster. Newsflash, I don’t have endless amounts of free tickets to every sporting event or concert across the country! And I don’t hang out with the players. I keep a professional distance, always have. And I’ve never ONCE asked for an autograph without going through a PR professional.

What is your favorite quote?
I have SO many favorite quotes I wish I could list them all! I’m currently obsessed with every quote by Jen Sincero who wrote “You Are a Badass”. But I think one of my favs is “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are” by EE Cummings. That was my goal this year when I turned 40 – to become fearlessly authentic. I wrote a post about my favorite quotes!

Now that I’ve finally gotten a chance to prop up my heel-stressed feet after a whirlwind of fashion chaos at this year’s New York Fashion Week I can finally take a break, collect my thoughts and focus my energy on translating the best trends I saw to fit our unique South Florida flare.  Here’s my recap of the world’s most fashionable week, the people that attended and how you can interpret the most coveted pieces into your wardrobe.

Last week after flying into the City, I made my way to my new home for the next few days: the iconic New York EDITION Hotel. I was, thankfully, properly dressed in travel-friendly yet polished attire because there were swarms of paparazzi stalking the hotel entrance to snap pictures of all the celebrities that were staying there, including the fashion queen, Victoria Beckham.

My week began on Monday with the Zac Posen ready-to-wear show at Spring Studios. I scored a front row seat next to the bold Miss J from America’s Next Top Model. We were both rocking a classic charcoal palette; Miss J in an iridescent black pleated frock while I strutted around in a gray body-con dress by Miami designer Sen.

The Zac Posen show was an artful mix of both day and evening wear. The line was composed of floral prints and textures with dresses reminiscent of 1950’s femininity contrasted by edgier biker-cut necklines on the otherwise delicate jackets. The attention to surface details and the celebration of womanly silhouettes did not go unnoticed. After the show, I went behind the scenes for a personal meet-and-greet with Zac. He was just as gracious and endearing as his Spring collection!

A few days later I was invited to an intimate presentation of Diane von Furstenberg’s 2017 Spring collection at the DVF flagship store in the Meatpacking District. The show was a testament to Jonathan Saunders’ talent as new Chief Creative Officer of the brand. The famous wrap-dress that launched the company’s success was reinterpreted by playing with fabric movement and alternating lengths. The collection also included a fabulous blend of saturated florals, stripes and color-blocking, giving fashion-forward businesswomen everywhere another reason to bow down to the DVF legacy.

The week was a delightfully dizzying experience. I got a chance to sip champagne with fashion’s finest (shout out to my gal and fashion blogger Christie Ferrari who took over the Lilac And Lilies Instagram Story) and gather inspiration for the shop.

As you can imagine, there were a lot of beautiful pieces and people but the most notable trends this season were luxurious over-the-knee boots, pajama inspired ensembles and slip dresses, and dramatic layering. In other words, looks that make perfect wardrobe updates for our one-of-a-kind fearless Floridians.

A few fun tie bits about me {besides the fact that I’m completely fashion obsessed}.
Quit my 9-5 at the end of 2012 to pursue my dream of being my own boss & doing what I love.
Now I am blessed to say, I have done just that. Whether it’s freelancing or blogging,
I spend my days working at home + on the road, loving every minute of my flexibly.
Proud Florida State University alumna – always a Seminole + season ticket holder.

What inspired you to start your blog? How long have you been blogging?

I launched LICP in February 2012 as a way to connect with local, like minded women in the fashion industry and inspire others through my personal style and fashion journey.

Living In Color Print  122A5018

Describe your style? Where do you find your style inspiration?

I feel my style is dictated by seasonal shifts and what type of mood I am in. I would say I often gravitate toward feminine silhouettes (fit and flare, billowy layers, and bell sleeves) and soft florals, however I can never get enough of ripped denim and oversized boyfriend tees. I find inspiration mostly throughout my travels. For example, last September after my first trip to London, I walked away wanting to only wear black jeans and oversized outerwear. The weather may have attributed to that wardrobe shift, but it was still eye opening to see what people across the pond rock on a daily basis. On the flipside, during a trip to Tokyo, I walked away not necessarily wanting to dress like a local, but the influence of vibrant colors and pattern play was something pretty magical to take inspiration from.

What is a timeless fashion piece you can’t live without?

The black loafer. Each year I see the style continue to be a staple within the majority of designer collections. Always reinvented or slightly tweaked season to season, whether it’s a play on texture, adding a heel detail, or making them backless (as we have seen the last couple years). Each detail as small as a shift it may be, continues to make this piece relevant year after year.

What are some of your favorite Fall 2016 Trends?

The continued menswear inspired pieces, the recent explosion of bell sleeves, and mono-neutrals all around!

One piece of advice you would give to any start up bloggers?

I would recommend going into it with a clear picture of what your goals are for your blog. Whether that means educating yourself on blogging as an industry, stalking your favorite bloggers websites for layout inspiration, or simply coming up with your own mission statement. Have all your ducks in a row and reference back to your original goals once you get started to ensure you’re staying on the path you intended. This industry will open so many doors that you never even imagined were possible, but maintaining your integrity along the way is the key to success.

Favorite place to work on your blog? Creative Space?

I would honestly say my favorite place to work is my home. It’s a comfortable space for me with little distraction where I feel I can be the most productive.

We’ve heard that women are bossy (or bitches or both) countless times in our lives in reference to a woman with high expectations and the drive to achieve her goals. Now if you take a woman who leads a successful company you get a slew of even more unpleasant name-calling. But why? If you think about it, the majority of people who are happy and successful in life and business have arrived in their positions because they’ve worked hard and have had a positive team around them. As much as we’d like to think other people’s decisions don’t affect us, it’s an irrefutable fact that humans are social creatures and we rely on others for support. Throughout my life I’ve come to realize the importance of nurturing myself and my passions but also those in my life that help me accomplish my goals. There will always be people ready to knock you down, but the way you brush the dirt off your Louboutins and how you treat people will always be the determinants of your success. Although they may have been hard lessons to learn, I’ve compiled a short but very important list of rules I hold very near and dear to my heart.

Always be gracious. Regardless of whether you are the newbie at a company or the CEO of a national corporation, thanking people who are in your life and acknowledging their contributions is a must. Showing appreciation to those around you (particularly the barista who always gets your latte just right) creates solid relationships and gives you the reputation of being a classy and courteous woman.

If you manage a team of people, use “we” instead of “I”. As a girl boss who is responsible for a large team it’s easy to take credit for any triumphant outcomes. In order to lead a happy and productive team, it is vital to share your successes. By sharing responsibility with everyone on your squad you create an inclusive environment where your staff will feel valued and will be more likely to happily contribute to the company.

Never burn bridges. My mother would always say, “You attract more bees with honey than vinegar.” But we all know it can be very hard to maintain that sweet disposition when other people are not cooperating. Even if telling someone off may seem ideal in the heat of the moment, you never know when those people will pop back into your life. Keeping your cool and remembering to respect others could be the difference between scoring a coveted seat at next year’s Fashion Week or catching the recap of Balenciaga’s fall line while you sit at home in your PJs.

Remember to give back. At the pinnacle of your success, when you need other people’s help the least is precisely the moment when you should give back the most. Take the time to recognize the people, organizations or communities that have gotten you where you are today. Not only does it send fabulous karma your way, but it also makes people proud to be associated with you and inspires future relationships, both personal and professional. When you pay it forward you’re helping another woman somewhere reach her designer dreams.
